CST300 Week 4

It has been a challenging week managing coursework while traveling to New York to support my sister-in-law through the final phases of her pregnancy. Although my kids are well-behaved, traveling with children is never easy. There's some relief in having fewer work commitments right now, but I'm finding it hard to focus as part of me feels like I'm on vacation.

On the upside, I successfully completed one of the four courses I took this semester with the completion of my AWS Capstone Project. The extra time afforded to me will go a long way in improving the quality of my work.

This week’s module continues our exploration of ethics in technology—an essential area of study for anyone in the tech field. As advancements in technology rapidly progress, they often outpace our moral and legal frameworks, compelling us to redefine our understanding of ownership, laws, and our preconceptions of right from wrong.

Part I. Educational Goals

Upon my acceptance into the CS Online program at CSUMB, I envisioned myself easily navigating its completion within a year. It has been a humbling experience realizing I had underestimated the rigors of this program. By the second week, it became evident that achieving my goals here would require additional time and effort.

With this knowledge gained from experience, I now aim to obtain a comprehensive set of skills in programming, computer theory, and foundational principles that will guide my educational aspirations toward AI and machine learning. The high level of abstraction in Java, and theoretical aspects of databases have been pain points for me, but they are critical components of my learning journey. Mastering them will be essential in the achievement of my broader goals. I envision the hard work ahead of me to maintain a 4.0 GPA in the program.

Part II. Career Goals

I aspire to do something that makes a significant impact on the future. I want to be part of the driving force that propels humanity to new frontiers. I envision myself leading innovative projects for major names in AI such as Google, OpenAI, or Microsoft, or embarking on a groundbreaking venture to contribute to the advancement of AI and technology.

The vision is a large part of the motivation that drives me to excel in my study endeavors. I don't want to be a bystander to technological advancement; I want to make contributions that will shape the future.

Part III. ETS Computer Science Test

After viewing the ETS page, the test description, and the sample test, I have to admit that a new anxiety has been unlocked. However, I intend to feel ready when the time comes to take this test in 18 months. My goal is to achieve a high percentile score, ideally aiming for a perfect score. To reach this goal, I will work hard at preparing by doing practice exams and studying the key components that are known to be part of the test.

I recognize that my weakness in test-taking lies in spending too much time on questions where the answer isn’t immediately apparent to me. This can cause me to fall behind on time, increasing the difficulty of the remaining portions of the exam. To address this, I need to practice managing the time I spend on any single question. By improving my time management skills and becoming more efficient in tackling challenging questions, I believe I can improve my overall performance.

Through diligent preparation, consistent practice, and focused study, I am confident that I can overcome my test-taking challenges and achieve a top percentile score on the ETS Computer Science test.
